Fred Gisevius was a grand southern gentleman with a uniquely gentle spirit who loved people, the law, and God. He was a legend, "a wonderful and colorful man with a twinkle in his eye, a captivating smile, and a fabulous mustache." Fred championed the "little guy" throughout his career. His practice encompassed personal injury, medical malpractice, catastrophic injury, and wrongful death, but Fred become well-known as a maritime lawyer.

Fred survived hurricane Katrina, but died in his sleep at age 94. A 1936 graduate of the Loyola University of New Orleans College of Law, the Frederick J. Gisevius, Jr. Scholarship Fund was established in his memory.
