In 1971, Jim Butler won the first jury verdict in a civil thalidomide case which was $2.75 million. He went on to litigate about 20 more thalidomide cases. He also successfully represented clients in lawsuits involving the 1974 crash of a DC-10 in France and the 1986 terrorist hijacking of Pan Am Flight 73 in Pakistan.

Jim was a World War II Marine Corps fighter pilot prior to becoming a great advocate for plaintiffs - and a one-of-a-kind guy. He handled tough cases and had many fine victories. Jim died at 84 years of age at home in his sleep.
