San Diego – The city of San Diego has approved a $5.9 million settlement of the civil rights case brought by one of more than a dozen women who claimed they were victims of sexual misconduct by veteran San Diego police officer Anthony Arevalos.

He now is serving a prison sentence on multiple counts.

The city will pay about $200,000 of the settlement, the rest of which is expected to be paid by insurers.

The sum includes $3 million in attorney fees and court costs incurred by the woman’s lawyers.

Plaintiffs counsel are Browne Greene of Greene, Broillet & Wheeler, LLP in Santa Monica, along with Linda Workman and Joseph G. Dicks of the San Diego law firm Dicks & Workman.

Commending the work of his colleagues, Greene said, “They took on this mammoth case and funded it themselves, knowing that the truth would come out.  They made this happen and this will now be a better city for all.”

The settlement resolves the last active case against the city brought by victims of Arevalos.
